Monday, May 24, 2010 (Oceanside, Calif.) � In windy (20-45 mph gusts of wind) and sunny, 80-degree weather at Las Vegas International Raceway, The Super Lap Battle Qualifier weekend completed with a crowd of people standing on the walls watching as the cars battled it out. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 (Oceanside, Calif.) � At the 2009 Super Lap Battle Finals held at Buttonwillow International Raceway, Crawford Performance's franchise driver Tarzan Yamada placed second in the Unlimited AWD Class. In his first Super Lap Battle outing at Buttonwillow during the 2009 season, Yamada catapulted the car to a finish that was 3.38 seconds faster than his first place finish in March of 2009.

Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 (Oceanside, Calif.) � Crawford Performance raced to success at Fontana, Calif.'s Auto Club Speedway over the July 31st weekend. In his first race as a Crawford driver, consummate professional Tyler McQuarrie set a track record in the NASA Time Trial Race of 1:39.185, a full two seconds faster than the previous year's finish. After just one session, McQuarrie remarked, 'With only a few practice laps to get used to the vehicle, I'd say there�s at least another 1.5 seconds in that car.'

Crawford Performance gave their nasty little 2008 STI a tweak or two and sent Subaru hot-shoe Tanner Foust on to the big course at Buttonwillow Raceway, seeking to end their year with a strong note. We know Ken Block well. He's that guy who jumps things in rally cars. After his 171-foot leap of insanity and his snow antics down under, we made him well aware that it would be hard to impress us from this point forward without adding fire�lots of fire. So upon watching this new clip, where Ken rips around El Toro airfield in his Gymkhana car (featured in 0-60 Spring 2008), we were at first disappointed to see all this smoke, but no fire. Then we noticed the guy on the Segway, and while Segways themselves are rather lame, the possiblity of crushing someone riding one is actually a lot cooler than fire. So once again KB, we applaud your efforts and nominate you for Hoon of the year.

The Crawford Performance Orange 2008 WRX STI, piloted by professional driver Eiji 'Tarzan' Yamada, placed 2nd in Unlimited AWD at GT Live's Redline Time Attack Season Finale held at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), Oct 3-5. What made this finale more impressive was that Team Crawford was in the position to help Dave Mirra, BMX legend and Monster Energy rally driver, with his new 2008 STI and two Time Attack competitors, James Elterman of Team Takata and Luke Russell of Top Speed. Both of which took first place in their class. Ultimately it was a fantastic way to way to end the 2008 Red Line Time Attack Series for Crawford Performance and for Subaru.

Warm and slightly humis air greeted racers and spectators as cars poured into Fontana, California for the first Redline Time Attack event at the Auto Club's California Speedway. July 19-20, 2008 marked the first Redline Time Attack on Cal Speedway's Auto configuration, also known as the 'roval'. This 2.88-mile, 21 turn track layout utilizies part of the speedway's banked oval, where some competitors turned speeds in excess of 160 mph before cutting speed and turning into the infield. A challenging and fast course, the roval was sure to deliver heart pounding excitement for both the drivers and spectators alike.

Having finished in Second Place overall in our Tuner Shootout last year, we knew Crawford Performance would be a strong contender again this year with the team's new '08 Subaru Impreza STI hatchback. After a very strong performance on the dyno and a great start to the autocross, the Crawford team once again looked like it was going to take a serious run for the top spot in the Shootout. Then the STI's timing belt skipped a tooth on the car's last autocross run of the day; the team's weekend was over.

This past weekend, at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Team Crawford continued on their pioneering venture with their new 2008 WRX STI earning 2nd in class, 1:42.327, at the Redline Time Attack. However the success was not without its challenges. The innovative skunkworks crew was faced with severe braking issues on the NASCAR ROVAL. Thankfully Tanner Foust, X-Games gold medalist, Drift Guru, Stunt Driver and now Top Gear USA TV Host, was on hand to pilot the 160mph WRX STI to another podium finish on Sunday.

The Crawford Performance 2008 WRX STI, piloted by professional driver Eiji 'Tarzan' Yamada, scored a podium finish this past weekend at the GT Live Redline Time Attack at Utah's Miller Motorsports Park (MMP). Despite excessively high temperatures on and off the track, the team was able to pull off a 2nd in the unlimited AWD class and third in overall finish. Given the strong contingent of seasoned Time Attack vehicles, this finish was quite an achievement for the five month old Crawford Skunkworks project.

With minor teething issues affecting some teams, those who ran well began to develop a distinct rhythm, Crawford Performance showed up with its latest creation, an Unlimted-class 2008 Subaru WRX STI. Fitted with a full roll cage, a larger turbo kit, hours of ECU tuning (the '08s now have dual AVCS), new TEIN suspension (with R and D crew) and driver Eiji 'Tarzan' Yamada, the subie finished the weekend in fourth with a much faster time than expected of an untested car that had just been finished and then literally driven to the track.

Super Street - Super Lap Battle Invades Long Beach

Since the mid 70's, Shoreline Drive and other various streets that connect to form the downtown portion of Long Beach have been better known every April as the official course of the Long Beach Grand Prix. used primarly by Champ Car, this two-mile course has played host to the other racing series such as Formula One, Grand0Am, the American le Mans Series and, most recently, has doubled as a demo course for the Formula Drift, which uses a portion of the LBGP track for thier own drift comptetion. So, yeah, serious.

Memorial Day weekend, Crawford Performance traveled to Arizona to compete the Modified Magazine Tuner shootout. The event was held at Firebird International Speedway, a 12 turn 1.6 mile road course. The shoot out was billed as a multi-day comprehensive contest which pitted each team against each other in the following categories; dyno run, an auto cross, a drag race and a road race, ala Time Attack. The team with the most points and the end of the contest would be crowned overall champion...

In fact, Crawford Performance have able to make up to 700 hp and rev to 8400 rpm on internally stock EJ25 engines and transmissions with proper ECU tuning and their CP35R turbo upgrade kit. That says a lot about how stout the EJ motors are in the hands of a truly skilled tuner, but with the larger displacement EJ motors Crawford did state that they are prone to detonation on the #1 and #4 pistons (where the ring lands are the most commonly beign snapped), so upgrading to forged pistons and rods is a good insurance for these types of builds.

This past weekend (April 17-20) was the 34th running of the Long Beach Grand Prix. Crawford Performance was extended an invitation to this motorsports bonanza to help kick off the inaugural Super Lap Battle series. Not only was it a first time for thousands of viewers to experience the competition Super Lap Battle, but it was also the debut of Crawford Performance's new 2008 WRX STI as driven by Eiji 'Tarzan' Yamada.

The Course, A gymkhana course, while similiar to autocross, has much tighter corners and some cone setups that actually require you to rotate 360 or 540 degrees around them. But for me, the most important difference is that instead of it being just a single course, there are two mirrored ones. So when you start there are two cars side by sde, and as soon as the starter says, 'Go,' they take off down a small straightaway. One goes left, one goes right...

It all started on March 16 when the Crawford Widebody Subaru arrived to a special event put together by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA). Typically, NASA racing events are held on more 'standard' road circuit courses. This time NASA decided to do things different, combine California Speedway's infield road course with the 14-degree banked D-shaped Oval. The result was a 17-turn 2.8 mile super track.

Well, we wish we could tell you that our Subaru was crowned champion, but this year we will have to settle for second place. Let's not kid ourselves, 2nd place is not horrible by any means. The Ultimate Street Car Challenge is like no other vehicle test around! NASA Time Trials - Two 1st Place Finishes

Crawford Performance earned another first place victory this weekend and broke a two year old record at the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Buttonwillow Raceway Park event in Buttonwillow, California. The event started with few thunderclouds and showers but ended up being all sunshine, just in time for Team Crawford to set a new track record for their 2006 Subaru Widebody Sti. The team set the bar early during the 2-day event running a 1:55 (track configuration #13 Counter Clock wise). That time bested the previous track record set by a Ferrari 360 Challenge, by 10 seconds. Of course the cool air temps, warm track and 305x18's certainly helped earn those fast times!

The first two cool and wet days of practice were spent making many adjustments to the car. But then there came the third day. With a few donuts in our belly's and coffee on our shirts, we were ready to reap the benefits of all our changes. The first session came and went, but not without another a special present from the race gods. BOOM... out goes the rear diff. With no spares, and miles away from home, all we could do for the rest of the day was wait, watch as our standings fall as competitors improved their times and eat stale donuts.

This was a weekend to remember, with the new APR Widebody just installed we could really see what this car was capable of around the Willow Springs race track. This weekend we chose to see what 305 tires can do on the race track versus pushing more power into the car. So we took a stock STi block, CP35R Turbo Kit and dropped in the standard I-Speed USA ECU.

It took six days to create the heavens and earth and on the 7th day there was rest. If only we could be so lucky :( Our 06 wide body conversion began Tuesday July 25th and on the seventh day, Aug 1st, we were driving the STi to compete in Sport Compact Car's Ultimate Street Car Challenge. But it didn't stop there. We then took it to the X-Games for a little press action, then off to Willow Springs for some track action. Now that the mini tour is over, we finally have the chance to sit down and do a little write up of the entire build. But this break will be short lived as we are preparing this and another car for Hot Import Nights LA. But enough of that, let's get to the good stuff!

The Crawford Performance's Team suits up at Willow Springs International Raceway for the 6th round of the 2006 Nasa Time Trial Series. While being another NASA Time Trial weekend we are now in the final stages of testing for the M (monster) series engines. Testing started over 3 years ago with the first trial runs at Pikes Peak in 2003.

New Subaru Record at Miller Motorsports Park

The Crawford Performance's shop car makes the trip to Miller Motorsports Park, just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah for some testing and comes home with a 3rd place in TTU class and fastest Subaru overall. Subaru TTU driver, Russ Warr began the weekend with a practice day on Friday to soak in as much of the 4.5 mile, 24 corner track. Dr. Warr said, 'While the track was difficult to remember, it was a great experience to race down the straight away 3 cars abreast and still plenty of room to breath.'

We recently finished compiling a 15 minute short film of the 2006 One Lap of America. The short film follows our customer's STi through all the tracks from start to finish. One Lap of America does not consist of only track events but also being able to drive your own vehicle to the next event. Sometimes those trips are as far as 1000 miles away, to only race the clock a few hours later.

The Crawford R4-CP35R STi package goes to the Willow Springs Raceway for testing and comes home with 2 second place victories for the weekend. It was a good weekend for Craig Dabbs (driver of the Black 2005 STi), running consistent times in the low 1:30s, while showing who is the quickest on the track. Most stock or slightly modified STi's were pulling low 1:40 lap times.

'Ok, so here's the deal. I'm sitting on the hot pit getting ready to go out for my first timed run in the Crawford Performance STI. Yamada had just gone out with 5 other cars and they don't want more than 6 at a time so, DAMN! I'm not going to get to run with Tarzan on this run. I was really looking forward to chasing him around. In practice, Tarzan and I had both come in to the hot pit to have tire temps and pressures checked and we got a nice clean run back out for some more practice.

2005 American Touge Competitor and 2004 Ultimate Street Car Challenge Competitor. - It was an experience/honor to have the Drift King (Keiichi Tsuchiya) beat the crap out of the the X-Wing. The car had the power/braking for the track but as the Drift King stated it needs suspension work, as it understeers quite a bit. I guess Prodrive Struts and Springs with 80K miles on them don't quite cut it.
